THE STORY :
St.Mura's Cross is generally believed to have been a precursor to the Irish high cross. Dating back to as early as 7th century, at the monastic site of Fahan Mura, St. Mura's Cross design was carved and decorated into a cross slab. Inspired by the rare and beautiful slab, Brian de Staic created a wearable version cut into the same shape from a natural black stone that is188 million years old. A simple and elegant combination of stone and 14 karat gold allows you not only to wear a piece inspired by a sculpted treasure of Ireland, but you can wear an ancient piece of Ireland itself.
“An rud is annamh is iontach” - 'the rarest and most wonderful thing' is an old Irish proverb that sums up what our latest collection, Carraig Dubh, is all about.
The creative journey from rough stone to a polished smooth gemstone is a highly skilled labour of love, and patience, using age-old local knowledge and traditional techniques. A miniature work of art that is crafted in our workshop in Dingle.
Your BdeS original Carraig Dubh is presented in our luxurious black signature box. This piece is hallmarked in Dublin Castle and stamped with our maker’s mark BdeS. All Carraig Dubh Collection will include acard signed by the master jeweller Brian de Staic.
